  • Description:

SN 676416 is a solid frame trench gun built in 1920. This is a commercial gun that was at one time acquired by a Maine Unit of the Civil Defense. The right side of the frame shows an electric pencil CD marking. This piece has a solid frame, cylinder marked with a bright excellent bore, this "Trench Gun" shows 95% of its original bright commercial blue finish. The barrel is mounted with a 4 hole commercial blued guard. The only finish loss is at the carry point and the action markings over the magazine and slide bar. All proofs and markings are clear and sharp. The stocks show all of the original finish with minor storage or usage marks on the butt stock. There is a minor chip on the toe of the butt plate and wood. A # 2 rack number is painted on the pistol grip base. This piece is mounted with a Kerr model 1917 no buckle sling, that remains in excellent condition. In addition this piece comes with the correct 1917 Winchester bayonet showing the US inspector marks and number H 364. There were 19,196 trench guns sold to the US during WW1 and an estimate of 30,000 prior to 1920. See Madis "The Winchester Handbook at page 169. This commercial Trench Gun" built in 1920 is a relatively scarce collector grade Winchester. In addition the number that probably survived in the condition of this example is even scarcer.
