• Description:

  SN 83748 is a Winchester Model 1894 rifle in 38-55.  The example shows a 26" octagon barrel with a bright very good to excellent bore.  The front sight is original but was modified by the prior owner.  The rear is a later (Model 94) rear sight.  The rifle was built in 1897 per the serial records but 1900 according to the Polishing Room serial application.  The date is basically irrelevent in Canada as in either case it is not an antique under Canadian law.  The barrel & mag tube show clear markings and 80%+or- original blue.  The receiver shows approximately 50% original blue and three lines associated with blood acid.  The action is sound and tight.  The wood is sound and original that can be improved with TLC.  A good example of an 1894 in scarce caliber with 12,197 built up to 1930 when the 38-55 was dropped.
