  SN 418988 is a Winchster 1873 in 44 caliber.  This rifle was built in 1892 as per the Cody records.  This round barrel 73 shows a 24" barrel with a pitted but shootable bore with sound rifling.  The rifle shows clear barrel and lifter markings.  The action functions correctly.  The overall finish may suggest an old refinish.  This rifle is basically a good example of 1873 rifle in the best caliber 44-40.  This Winchester comes with its original war time registration slip showing serial # 418988.  The permit was signed by the original owner, John Smith, a section man on the rail road and the RCMP Corporal at the time.  Note: This registration was brought out by MacKenzie King, Liberal PM of Canada.
