  • Description:

Winchester 1885 (High Wall) rifle, SN 71300, 30 " octagonal #3 barrel, caliber 32-40 .  This rifle show a bright very good bore with light corrosion and strong rifling.  The barrel shows most of its' original blue turning dull with excellent clear markings.  The  factory information indicated special sights and no rear sight seat.  The original sights are not present and some former owner cut a rear sight seat.  The receiver shows some trace of case color but is mostly silver.   The action is sound and solid.  The original set triggers remain in place (only 3367 built) see Madis handbook page 73.  The wood is very sound, not standard and has an original shotgun buttplate. At sometime a prior owner inlaid a brass star on the right side of the buttstock.  A Cody records sheet is included.  This indicated the various special features of this rifle and its' shipping date of April 1898. Despite the earlier modifications this piece is a sound Winchester single shot in a shootable caliber.  This rifle could be used as is or be restored by or for the Winchester collector.  A rare Winchester.
