- Description:
Wilson marked barrel and lock is marked on a flintlock fowling piece circa 1770's. This piece shows a 38" barrel octagon to round with a swamped muzzle. The barrel is marked Wilson London and shows London proofs. The bore is approximately 16 gauge and shows a smooth bright finish. The 5 1/2" lock plate shows fine engraving and is marked Wilson. Careful examination has revealed that the item was built as a flint circa 1770's, converted to percussion and reconversion was probably done in England by a skilled gunsmith. This fowling piece shows it's original silver side plate ( three hunting dogs). The 10 " silver trigger guard shows a floral arrangement on stand with touch marks. The half stock shows a silver escutchion with initials of original owner. The silver butt plate shows engraving and silver(London) marks lion, anchor, etc. The halfstock remains in sound condition with a carved tang and checkering on the wrist. This piece represents the quality of English makers of this era (late 1700's). Despite the reconversion this item will make a great addition to any sporting gun collection. Antique, not subject to permits.
