Enfield Rifle Musket 2nd Model
- Licensing Category: Antique
- Maker: Enfield
- Model:
- Caliber/Gauge: .577
- Description:
Antique Enfield Pattern 1853/55 rifled musket caliber 577. This example shows the obvious usage in battle condition . The butt shows 2 roundels. The 1st shows the Leige contract mark with the broad arrow. Over stamped is the Pimlico 1862 dated roundel, this matches the 1862 dated Enfield lock. The barrel shows the Liege Belgium proof marks. The barrel shows a bore with rifling and obvious corrosion. The bore may improve with heavy brushing and bore cleaner. The interesting feature of this item is the obvious battle damage to the right side of the butt and above and below the lock. It is very obvious that the rifle was hit by a blast of buckshot from a source ahead of the rifle and from a slightly lower trajectory. We would assume that whoever was carrying this item fared of far worse at the time. This Enfield represents a seldom encountered weapon showing obvous battle damage. It also would indicate that this Enfield did not go back into British stores. Antique status.
