- Description:
Sn 1540 is a quality double 12 gauge ejector gun buit by Kenneth Dudley Radcliffe of Colchester Essex. This sidelock gun was originally built in 1911 as per the Radcliffe records. The right hand inside edge of the forwood shows the #3476. This was the Radcliffe number applied when the piece came back into the Radcliffe inventroy in 1926. It may have been rebarred at this time and fitted with ejectors. The barrel and locks both show the Radcliffe name. This piece shows 28" barrels 2 1/2" chambers 1 C and CYL bores. Excellent fine engraving . The butt shows 16 1/4" LOP. The butt was extended for a prior owner which could be reduced to 14 1/4" by removal of the extensions . The bores rate as bright excellent plus. The engraving on the receiver is best rated as excellent plus. The checkering shows obvious use and wear. it would be fitting to have the wood recheckered by a qualified gunsmith. An excellent example of a fine English shotgun by a small but very respected provincial gun maker. This is reflected by the fact that Nigel Brown in his work" British Gun Makers" acknowledged Radcliffe. We have included pages 128 &129 for the benefit of our clients.
