  • Description:

An above average condition and scarce Fowling piece.  This example remains in above average condition.  The barrel is 25" octagon to round with three wedding rings.  The bore appears to about 28 gauge and shows Birmingham proofs from the 1813 to 1855 era.  Adjoining the proofs is a #36 overstamping a letter (- & lo) marking. The bore rates as bright very good to excellent.  The original brown/blue finish remains in place.  The 1/2" breech shows its original nipple and fine engraving.  The stock shows its original finish, a 4 1/2" butt tang, excellent checkering and a 13" lop. The lock , stock tang, and triggerguard shows fine engraving.  The lock remains in sound condition, the hammer spur shows an old repair. This scaled down Fowler is a relatively uncommon item.  This example weighs 3 /2 pounds unloaded.  We can specualte that this gun was built especially for a end-use buyer.  The original owner user may have been a small stature male, a female or young boy.  Over our many years in business we have had numerous English Fowlers.  This item is the only one that we have encountered in this scaled down configuration.  A scarce antique piece in better than average condition.
