- Description:
We are pleased to offer a scarce 1st pattern New Land musket circa 1802, page 149 {plate42} of Blackmore" British Military Firearms 1650 to 1850". This pattern of musket was never issued in Canada, but some may have armed British troops stationed in Canada. Any such arms would have returned to England with departing British units. The New Lands were built starting in 1802 and this one shows all the correct furniture, pages 136-138 of Blackmore. This example shows a 42" barrel with excellent plus if not new condition bore. The stock shows the broad arrow BO and The 1.C.R. (first class reserves) markings. As per Blackmore it is very difficult to deteremine how many 1st pattern New Land muskets were built and taken into service. This piece shows an excellent stock with minor storage or issue marks. The original flat faced lock on this musket was replaced by an excellent 3rd pattern Bess lock. The lock remains in sound excellent condition. This musket is seldom found on the North American market. A scarce item in any British Military collection.
