SN 413A is found on the barrel, receiver and sight. The A indicates Enfield production . This serial number falls in the same 400 range as do 14 carbines and bolts on the 1917 Armourers "Depot Partial List of NWMP Enfield Carbines". See page 192 of "Arms & Accoutrements of the Mounted Police" by Don Flawcher. The receiver is dated 1899 and marked :L.E.C. over 1. The metal shows 98% original blue. The bore rates as very good plus to low excellent. This action came from a collection that we acquired circa 1990's and has remained in our parts since that time. The stock remains in excellent condition. This stock was mounted by the collection's former owner. Based on the serial # 413, it is our opinion that this action came out of the original group of carbines that went to the North West Mounted. Serial number 408/410 and 424 of the partial list surrounds this item. Based on the examination of the component parts, markings and finish leads us to the conclusion that this carbine was one of the carbines that went west. Significant parts for the MK 1 carbines are scarce. Any barreled action in this condition and assocaited with the NWMP is far scarcer if not rare.
