SN 164941 is one of 850 units (according to Savage records) of Savage 99 muskets sold to the Montreal Homeguard in 1914, for their newly formed private homeguard located in Westmount (Montreal). This example shows a 26" barrel, 303 Savage caliber, with bright very good to excellent bore and 80-85% original blue on barrel and action. The original rear sight was replaced with an 1873 marked Winchester rear sight and the forewood and front band were rebuilt.. The butt shows the issue #381 as applied by MHG. The wood shows usage marks but presents itself as a nice example. A reprentative piece for the Savage or Canadian WW1 collection.
