    SN 165051 is a Savage musket built in 1914, one of approximately 827 muskets built for the Montreal Home Guard.  This example shows the Savage applied rack number 372 on the butt plate tang.  This example shows a bright excellent 303 Savage caliber bore.  This musket shows original factory blue which rates at 97%.  The wood appears to have been refinished by or for a prior owner.  The lever shows 98% bright original case color.  The sights are all original with a factory installed front sight protector.  These muskets and uniform kits were purchased by the members. The cost at the time rifle and uniform were approximately $55.00.  Members who could not afford this amount had their kits paid for by their sponsors.  if a member owned a rifle (not a musket) he could use the same.  The Home Guard would stamp a rack number on the same.  The Montreal Home Guard was a unique home guard unit.  This home  guard unit was created by a group of wealthy men from Westmount PQ.
