- Description:
This sword is a French Cuirassiers heavy calvary sword dated 1811. At the time of purchase the seller indicated that the sword was a battle field pick up after Watereloo battle ( June 1815). The guard shows a makers name Versailles with two proof marks. The top of the blade shows the French markings and July 1811 date. The 37 1/2" blade remains in sound condition showing some small scattered areas of corrosion. The overall length of the sword is 44". A sound example of a pre Waterloo built sword that may well have been recovered after the battle without it's scabbard.
