  • Description:

A Blunderbuss originally built as a flintlock and later converted to percussion.  This piece was built by Richardson who was noted for quality and finish of his pieces.  This iron barrel piece shows a 16" barrel octagon to round mounted with a spring bayonet.  The lock shows the maker's name but not the name of the converter.  The metal shows the quality work of the maker and the spring bayonet functions perfectly.  The wood remains in sound condition overall as do the brass fittings.  Note:Theophilus Richards percussion Blunderbuss recently sold at RIA for $3,700.  Theophilus is father to noted William Westley Richards.  Iron barrel pieces appear to be scarcer the the brass barrel variation.
