Original NWMP Maxim Feed Block

  We are pleased to offer a one of a kind part from a North West Mounted Police Vickers-Maxim machine gun.  This item is the brass feed block for serial #5186 as acquired in 1896.   See: Chapter 6 page 76 of "Arms and Accroutrments of the Mounted Police 1873-1973" by Philips & Klancher.  A total of 4 Maxim guns were purchased by the force.  Serial # 5186 had been on exhibit at the Depot Division Museum prior to 1948.  On or about 1960 the mounted police did destroy a Maxim gun at Whitehorse and was probably #5186.  The current owner acquired this item from a former member of the RCMP at a Calgary gun show in the mid 1990's, former Corporal A.J.Somers.  He is shown on page 82 of the aforesaid reference.  The item shows serial #5186 with all small attached parts showing same.  It also shows the trade mark of Nordenfelt.  Additional information may well be available from the University of Alberta who acquired the Sam Steele meticulous records.  A very rare item for the serious Mounted Police or Canadian collector.
