- Description:
A scarce WW2 era Dutch close combat fighting knife. These knives were built for the Dutch military. Original examples of this knife seldom appear in the marketplace. After the German occupation of the Netherlands, many of these knives ended up in the service of the Dutch Waffen SS and other German units. This appears to be an unaltered example that may have been one of the captured pieces. This example came from an old knife collection. The now deceased owner had aquired the same from a Canadian vet who saw service in Holland in WW2. This piece shows the crown over z proof on the blade, guard and on the wood grip. On the front face of the guard is an issue mark R 121.5 over AC. The original leather scabbard shows a mark CW on the front face and a crossed out #5400E on the reverse. This example shows an 8" blade and overall length of 13 1/8". This example shows an original nickel finish. The aforementioned proofs appear to have been struck through the nickel finish. A very scarce, if not rare, knife for the serious military knife collector. Most of the Stonmdolk daggers appear to have been blued, however this piece shows original nickel finish. The finish begs the question- was this one of the pieces that fell into German hands after the take over of the Netherlands?
