    NSN.  A Nova scotia issue Brown Bess showing a storekeepers mark dated 1800 on the right side of the butt.  Above the same is the markings 24 Batt over Colchester M (Militia) .  This 3rd Pattern Bess shows it's correct 39" barrel with an overall brown finish with clear proofs.  The lock plate shows sharp Tower and crown GR markings.  As with many N.S. muskets this piece was converted to percussion in its' latter era of service.  The conversions were done either by armoururs, blacksmiths or contracted gunsmiths.  This example indicates a blacksmith conversion for this unit.  There is a less common marking on the sideplate DP. (drill purpose).  The wood is all sound and shows no sanding.  The piece shows the inspection stamps on the underside of the butt.  The brass remains in unpolished condition.  A nice example of a converted N.S. militia musket.
