  • Description:

We are please to offer an original trade gun built by Barnett.  The Barnett family of gun makers spanned a period from 1735-1908.  They supplied guns to the North West Co and to Hudson Bay Co..  The lock of this flint trade gun shows the Barnett name and a sitting fox.  The lock, hammer and trigger guard show assembly number 14.  The 36" barrel shows 6 3/4" octagon at the breach, a ring and 29 1/4" round.  The bore appears to be 58 caliber/approximately 28 gauge.  The bore shows relatively little usage, bright and very little corrosion.  The metal shows an overall brown finish as does the lock and trigger guard.  The stock remains in overall excellent condition with an 1871 era serpent sideplate.  The stock is also mounted with a brass butt plate with original 6 nails holding.  This item was sourced from a collection in British Columbia that had been assembled by an old collector.  We are given to understand this is the first time this item has been offered to the collecting community.  A scarce and above average condition item.  Ref: Trade Guns of the Hudson Bay Co. by James Gooding
