  SN 19578 is a 22 caliber Mossberg training rifle.  This rifle is marked "United States Property" on the barrel and action.  There were 50,000 made and used by the U.S. as a training rifle.  They were also supplied in limited amounts to England and possibly Canada,  Built  1942-43, this example shows a bright excellent 22 caliber bore.  THe rear and front sights were removed and a Mossberg 2/3 quarter scope installed using a Mossberg No 9 mount.  It has been suggested that this configuration may have been used for elementary scope training.  It can also noted that most samples of this Mossberg Model are found without front or rear sights.  A relatively scarce WW2 training rifle that is seldom found on todays market.  The wood shows all original finish and no markings other than a small C on the bottom of the pistol grip and scratch marks indicating that some marking was removed?  A scarce 22 trainer from WW2.  Non restricted.
