- Description:
We are pleased to offer a very scarce ,if not rare, US 1830 Cadet musket. These muskets were the first muskets built for the US military cadets at West Point ,New York. For reference :see Flayderman 8th ED 9A-255 at page 455. This example shows SN 10 at the base of the barrel below the P (proof) eagle head and V. The tang shows the 1830 date as does the lock plate. The top of the bayonet stud also shows the 0 of the 10. The 36" barrel shows a typical corroded bore but remains in better than average condition . The lock plate shows clear crisp markings. This rare Cadet musket was converted to percussion and reconverted by or for the former owner. This musket was originally found in Nova Scotia approximately 15 years ago. This piece shows its original barrel length 36" and all of it's original parts. This example shows clear ,crisp markings, sound original wood and above average metal condition. There were 154 36" barrel muskets built at Springfield Arsenal (1830-31). If you consider the survival rate of these Cadet's over the past 190 years they must be considered to be best described as rare. By way of comparison, our company sold an untouched example approximately 5 years ago for an amount north of 15,000 US. This item is being offered in Canadian dollars.
