This Brown Bedss shows a 42" barrel and an original lock marked edge and dated 1757. The barrel shows clear, crisp barrel markings RE & #13 markings at the base. The flat side plate is identical to plate illustrated on page 87 of "The Brown Bess" by Goldstein and Mowbrey, including the TE wood mark. The stock shows the crown storekeepers mark. This piece shows the 1759 steel rammer, trumpet pipe but no nose cap. The butt correctly shows no brass wristplate. The wood is original showing the correct inspector markings and no evidence of sanding or repair. A very good plus example of a militia or marine pattern musket Model 1759 which is described a rare on page 84 of the aforesaid work.
