Mameluke Hilted Early 19th Century Sword

This eastern sword shows a 32" blade and a mameluke hilt. This piece is either late 18th or early 19th century. The blade is a curved kilij type that remains in sound condition aside from a few areas of light pitting. The grips are horn with silver bands and six brass studs to provided a solid grip. The brass guard shows light engraving and obvious usage marks. The grips shows evidence of old repair. It is difficult to establish which eastern country and used this sword. Turkey, Persia and wester India all built swords with the curved kilij style blade. This piece comes with the remnents of it's original scabbard. An original example for the sword collection.
