  • Description:

Sn 3832 is a magazine rifle MK1* (Lee Metford) .  This rifle is marked Enfield 1889 * on the right side of the socket and inspector marked 90 on the left.  This scarce rifle shows all of its original features.  The metal shows some pitting especially under the wood.  The belt is renumbered on the top of the bolt handle to match and a XX out #2243 on the back side.  The numbers are both arsenal struck.  This rifle appears to have been built as a MK 1 and was upgraded to 1* which started in December of 1890. This is a very early example with the first lot of rifles built at Enfield (1889-1890) with a total production of 21,238 rifles.  This Mk 1 Metford, as with the majority of them, was upgraded to 1* . This example shows it's original 8 shot magazine.  The butt shows surplus sale, ST over DP markings.  The disk shows a later date of 6/10 and a unit marking SG over 714.  This rifle shows 3 slashes on the barrel and forewood on the right side.(?) The bore rates as bright with obvious corrosion and typical worn rifling especially towards the muzzle.  A difficult Enfield to locate.
