Lee-Metford MK II Rifle
- Licensing Category: Non-restricted
- Maker: BSA
- Model: Mark II
- Caliber/Gauge: .303
- Description:
SN 3412 is one of the scarce Lee -Metford rifles built for the non military market. This BSA is marked Lee-Speed Patents on the right side of the socket. See page 79 of "The Lee Enfield Final Edition" by Ian Skennerton. These commercial or contract rifles were marked in this manner. This is one of the types of Metford as used by some foreign bodies both quasi military and commerical. This example is complete and original showing 98% bright original blue, bright excellent bore with only trace of fine corrosion. This type of Metford rifle was used in the Jameson Raid in 1896 in South Africa. The majority of rifles as acquired by civilians were used for target shooting. This example shows no evidence of sight modification or the mounting of target sights. The wood remains in excellent condition showing only minor usage marks and strong traces of its' factory finish. It would appear that this example is totally complete and original with the exception of the missing magazine link loop and the included ordnance marked cleaning rod. An above average Metford rifle for any Lee Enfield collection.
