  • Description:

This rifle is one of the scarce SSA Co. rifles (standard small arms) built from 1915 to 1918.  The story of this unusual builder of parts and rifles is set out on page 172 of "The Lee Enfield" the final edition by Ian Skennerton.  This example shows the 1918 date and the SSA marking at the back end of the action.  This WW1 rifle show matching bolt, barrel, lug and wood and has an excellent bore, finish and wood.  This piece was originally built under the "Peddled Scheme" and is a very scarce variation in most Lee Enfield Collections.  This example shows the scarce SSA marking, the Enfield inspector markings and the typical markings of the WW1 peddled scheme markings .  See page 172.  In addition see page 176, 556 and the photos on page 573 aforesaid.  This rifle  was later upgraded in 1931 and 1933 as per the body and barrel dates.  A scarce variation Enfield in above average condition.
