  • Description:

SN 2147 is an all matching exceptional example of a percussion big bore rifle (approximately 75 caliber) by the noted maker, Kavanagh of Dublin.  The firm of W&J Kavanagh operated from 1830-1862.  ( The era of this rifle) .  The firm built a large variety of firearms, all of high quality.  A large bore big game rifle by this maker is relatively scarce.  This example shows a 31" barrel showing an overall wavy pattern on the barrel and rib.  The rear sight appears to be graduated to 500 yard- 1 fixed and 4 platinum lined leafs.  The multi grooved barrel shows approximately 20 grooves of rifling and is rated as very good plus.  The lock is a back action showing overall fine hand engraving and its original hammer.  The 13" triggerguard assembly shows full engraving as does the barrel and buttplate tangs.  The wood is a high grade walnut that shows no cracks or breaks, sound wrist checkering and 5 1/2" engraved patch box.
