  • Description:

Single John Manton & Son flint dueling pistol.  This example was converted to percussion by the makers probably circa 1830's.  This saw-handled pistol was very neatly converted to percussion using an engraved cone with a top mounted nipple.  The engraved lock plate shows the Manton & Son named with patten which suggests their method of conversion.  The bore shows straight line rifling which was probably milled at the time of conversion from duelling to target.  This excellent example shows the typical fine Manton engraving, the ebony rod, silver fittings and engraving on the triggerguard, locks, butt capp  and the various parts and fittings.  The strap shows a makers number 10905.  This is an exceptional example of a dueler converted to target or general use pistol. John Manton and Son were named as gunmakers to the Royal family.  They were located at No 6 Dover Street London.  The fine engraving , the fit and finish of this conversion by the Mantons speaks for itself.  The makers number 10905 suggests a conversion date of the early 1830's.
