We are pleased to offer a Holland double rifle SN 19353 that has never been offered for sale on the Canadian market. This rifle was built in 1907 for one 'Mr. Grant". The rifle is 375 bore, 2 1/2" flanged nitro express. Included with the rifle are 4 sealed boxes and 1 partial box (total 47) original 375 express cartridges. This rifle shows 26" barrels with bright excellent bores. The front sight is ramp mounted. The rear express sight is graduated 100, 200 & 300 yards. The barrel unit shows a 9" matted sight rib. The action shows the best bold foliage scroll hand engraving and a gold-inlaid safety indicator. The pistol grip cap is engraved and shows a trap containing two spare firing pins and an alternate front sight. This rifle was used by Dr. L.E. Eaton to hunt dangerous game in India. The wood remains in sound condition with only minor usage marks. The LOP is 14 1/4". This rifle comes in it's original H&H leather case. The exterior shows obvious usage marks but remains in overall sound condition. The interior shows it's original red liner with the leather H&H label and the rifle label serial numbered to the gun, cartridge load, etc. The case contains a 3 piece steel cleaning rod, an H&H marked screwdriver, pair of 375 snapcaps, ivory or bone parts container with an ivory front sight. This rifle was owned by a known sportsman Dr. Leslie Emerson Eaton who was a dental surgeon. (University of Pennsylvania 1905). Dr Eaton practiced in British Madras 1905-1920. At this time he hunted in India for amazing numerous trophies. Dr. Eaton returned to Nova Scoptia and died in 1953 in Wolfville. Based on the above information the "Mr. Grant" may well have been the agent for Dr. Eaton on the purchase of this rifle from Holland & Holland. An excellent example for a Royal Grade Holland double Rifle. Documentation will accompany this item and will be delivered to the purchaser at the time of the sale. An overall excellent double rifle for the serious collector.
