• Description:

  Original antique Mississippi rifle built at Harpers Ferry in 1853.  The piece shows it's original 33" barrel.  The bore shows scattered corrosion but sound rifling.  This piece had the original military rear sight removed and replaced by a single sight.  The front sight and bayonet studs appear to be replacements.  The example shows it's original lock, brass fittings and sound original stock.  The wood is original and shows obvious usage but no repairs or cracks.  The brass fittings are all original to the piece.  There were only 25,296 Mississippi rifles made at Harpers Ferry from 1846 to 1855.  A relatively scarce U.S. that could be improved with instillation of a proper rear sight.
