- Description:
An interesting British Staff Officer's sword which is presumed to be one as carried by a ranking British officer. This sword is basically a modification of the Pattern 1803. The blade shows remnants of its original blue finish and a single wide fuller. The blade shows a crown, a stylized GR and a Stand of Arms on the left. The right side of the blade shows a standing warrior with a curved blade sword. The grip is checkered ivory with some loss adjoining the lions head pommel. All fittings are gilded brass including the lions head langets. The scabbard is leather with gilt brass fittings. These fittings are similar in pattern to the 1803 sword as shown on page 151. Fig 135 "Swords of the British Army" by Robson. Note the loose rings, bands and locket stud for hooking the sword up in action. A British sword that saw obvious usage but survived as a complete unit.
