  • Description:

This old and well used trade gun shows a barrel of 47" and an overall length of 63".  The bore is approximately 72 caliber.  This piece is mounted with all iron furniture.  The lock shows overall pitting with an overall length of 6 5/8" plate.  There are remnnants of markings but not identifable.  The lock appears to be identical to the lock as shows on page 89 of the work .  "The French Trade Gun in North America" by Kevin Gladysz,(unfortunately now out of print) Mowbray 2011.  The rounded iron side plate is 4 1/2".  The examination of this musket suggest that this trade gun was made up from an earlier military musket. The stock appears to be a North American restock (maple) and shows an old carved AF initials on the left side of the butt.  The metal shows overall pitting and light corrosion.  This gun was sourced out of Quebec. A good example of an early French trade gun circa the 1750 era.
