  • Description:

SN 1244713 is a collection grade US Springfield rifle.  The barrel shows the SA mark over 3/22 production date.  This rifle shows no wood markings and remains in new condition.  The 30-06 caliber bore can only be described as new/mint.  The face of the bolt shows no rebound primer marks and rates as new.  The feeder ramp shows no indication of any usage.  Any mark on the finish would be associated with storage for 99 years.  We have no information as to the original source of the rifle.  There are no signs of issue which may suggest that it may have been in war reserves or a reference collection at some point.  A former owner added a correct sling which remains in sound condition dated 1943.  This rifle falls in the serial range 1921-1929 production at Springfield.  In the year 1922 there were 15,724 rifles built at the arsenal.  The stock on this rifle may be an example of the 1922 stock with military forend.  Ref: page 61 of "The Springfield 1903 Rifles" by Brophy.  A less than common Springfield rifle in  true collector grade condition.
