This item is an above average example of an issue Nova Scotia Brown Bess musket. The stock shows the original branded militia marking L M 23 BT musket issue #91. The lock shows crisp sound markings of Tower and crown over GR and a crown broad arrow proof. The barrel shows 39 1/2" with clear crisp crown GR proofs and very strong remnants of original browning. The musket is mounted with it's original rod showing crown over 6 inspection marks. The wood shows all of the original inspection marks and a clear crown 1800 date. The barrel tang shows the same crown 6 inspection mark. The writer has owned and processed hundreds of Brown Bess muskets over the past 60 years as a firearms dealer. Over the those years I have handled some exceptional examples of the Nova Sotia issued muskets and this example rates up there with some of the best. The only non original markings is a 1 1/2"x1/4" sliver adjoining the brass nose cap on the right side of the musket. "Condition is everything". This item was part of one of the finest condition collections as assembled in Canada.
