We are pleased to offer exceptional percussion rifle built by John H. Rector.  This maker is considered to be one of the best know and respected New York makers of his era.  This excellent percussion rifle is barrel marked J.H. Rector Syracuse N.Y. with a serial # 1427.  This fine rifle shows a 30" barrel with under rib complete with it's original rammer.  The percussion lock is a back action showing its original finish and fine scroll engraving.  The barrel and action is mounted on am American walnut half stock. The wood remains in excellent condition for a rifle that dates to the mid 1850's.  The stock is mounted with German silver fittings.  All of the fittings, triggerguard, patch box, buttplate and decorative plates show fine hand engraving.  Our research indicated that Rector was noted for his use of silver fittings and for the quality of his work.  This rifle shows a 38 caliber bright excellent condition bore.  An overall excellent higher grade percussion target rifle that remains in above average condition.  This item was sourced out of Southern Ontario.  One of the maker's ads from 1857-58 advertised his rifles from $12 to $300.00.  In adition it indicated that his guns could be ordered and sent to any part of the USA and Canada.  This rifle may well have been ordered from the maker at that time.  Note: The pages on the maker , his guns and history are included.
