SN 1L7455 , here we have a "like new" Long Branch No 7 from the second generation batch. This example shows 99% original Parkerized finish and original wood finish with a bright as new bore. This example is from the second contract built in 1945. It is one of those built before 1946. Ref: see pages 318-319 in "The Lee Enfield" 3rd edition by Skennerton. This example has seen little if any usage and is mounted with an original mint sling of the era. The receiver shows the early 1945 Type 2 marking and serial number , which is also on the bolt but not on the receiver ring.This example shows the brushed (removed) serial number on the left side. Apparently, when these No 7's were being transferred to crown assets batches of the same had their numbers removed. This practice did not continue for long. For some reason logic must have prevailed.
