  • Description:

John Waters & Co (1781-1810).  All brass cannon barrel coach pistol.  John Waters patented the spring bayonet and sliding triggerguard release.  A Birmingham maker located at Birmingham (1767-1781) name changed to the above (and Co.).  This coach pistol shows a 7 1/2" semi bell mouth barrel.  All of the exterior components are brass with the exception of the bayonet, rod and triggergaurd.  This pistol was originally built in flint and later converted to percussion.  The pattened spring bayonet was No. 1284 on the 9th of March 1781-remnants of the patten are visible on the lower left frame of the pistol.  John Waters is credited with the invention of the "spring-bayonet." This pistol shows a sound working action, a functional spring bayonet and an original rod.  It can be noted that the original flint pistol is featured on the front cover of the work "English Gunmakers" by Baley & Nie.  A sound example for the British or bayonet pistol collector.
