  • Description:

Commerical Snider "Volunteer Pattern" long rifle.  Built by P. Webley & Son.  This scarce Snider is one of the commerical guns built by some of the leading English gunmakers in the 1870's.  This Webley shows the Snider patent markings on the MK 3 action and all the commerical proofs.  The barrel is iron which was the choice of the top shooters at the time. All of the fitting are iron.  This example shows a bright very good plus bore with light corrosion and sound shootable rifling.  The rear sight is graduated to 400 yards.  The stock on this commerical rifle is a select English walnut.  There are some storage or case gouges on the left side of the stock.  The name of the original owner J. Melville is stamped on the wood in four locations.  This piece is a Snider variation for the collector or shooter.
