SN 24445 is one of 1300 Colt M 1909 marine corps revolvers as built for and delivered to the U.S.M.C.. This is a very scarce if not rare handgun.  This example shows a bright excellent 45 caliber Colt bore.  The hand checkered grips both have a matching serial number to the frame and the cylinder latch.  The metal shows clear crisp markings on the barrel with most original finish overall.  The side plate shows the commercial Colt logo with the stylized "C" as introduced in 1909.  The side plate shows wear to the logo and some added finish as does the back strap.  The triggeR, hammer and frame screws show remants of the Colt heat blue.  The butt shows the correct USMC and issue #292 markings. Reference: see "Colt New Service Revolvers" by Murphy, pages 27-29 and by Tim Mullin, Ch. 7 pages 67-69. An extremely scarce Colt especailly on the Canadian market.  The US Navy and USMC revolvers were the shortest production runs of the New Service class of revolvers.
