One of 1001 holsters built for the 1001 Colt Model 1878 revolvers. These revolvers and holsters were acquired by the Canadian government from Hartley & Graham, New York. Reference: see page 26-27, "Canadian Military Handguns 1855-1885" by late Clive Law. This holster was probably issued in Canada and NOT in south Africa as it shows no unit markings. A number of the 1878's saw service with certain units in WW1. Relatively scarce holster for the 1878 Canadian issue Colt revolver.
