  SN 1388138 is a Colt 1911 A1 mounted with a scarce 38 SPL A.M.U. slide.  The slide shows all of its' original Colt finish and sharp clear markings.  The frame is a 1943 date Remington Rand U.S. military contract piece.  The value in this item is the match AMU conversion kit slide unit.  The 38 AMU is a semi rimless 38 AMU cartridge as built by Winchester.  The frame is a refinished piece that suggests that the AMU kit was not mounted by the U.S. army.  The slide mag and barrel are marked 38 SPL.  AMU (Army advanced marksmanship unit).  All of the AMU kits were only built for the U.S. military.  Relatively few were sold commercially as per page 447 "The Book of Colt Firearms" by Sutherland. These kits are considered to be a scarce item in the collecting of cartridge Colts.  This example shows the correct front and Bo-Mar rear sight.
