SN 517996 is an excellent example of an as issued 1884 trapdoor U.S. Springfield rifle. This collector grade piece shows the following: go to 95% all original finish (metal and wood) bright excellent plus 45-70 cal bore. All clear crisp markings. The trapdoor shows faded case on the exterior and vivid color on the interior. Crisp action and excellent lock. The wood shows all original finish and clear sharp cartouche , SWP (Samuel W. Porter 1891( and final "P" inspection mark. The wood shows some minor issue or storage marks on the left side of the butt. This example is in above average condition. The rifle is mounted with its' original one piece Springfield sling marked "Rock Island arsenal and inspector T.CX. in two places. It is very uncommon to find these rifles with he original issue slings. This piece remains in excellent as issued condition. The original ramrod knurled wiper is in the buttstock receptacle.A collector grade example commonly found in the USA but less often encountered in Canada.
