  • Description:

SN 9492 is a 71/84 rifle built at Spandau in 1887.  This rifle saw it's original issue to the 50 Reg 15.100 as marked on the back plate tang.  This and thousands of German arms were purchased by Bannermans of New York.  At some point in time during WW1 a large lot were purchased to arm a home guard unit in Quebec City.  This unit was similar to the Monteal Home Guard.  Following WW1 the home guard turned the weapons over to the Reg Zuave who acted as ceremonial guards for the Catholic churches throughout the province.  Approximately 40 years ago we purchased 400+/- of these rifles from the Zuave.  Unfortunately, the demand in Canada was minimal so a friend, John Denner, arranged for foreign sales and most were sold to Germany and Austria.  This rifle shows a bright excellent bore and all matching numbers.  The QHG issue number was 222 and the Zuave issue was 96.  This example remains in sound overall condition and is a great item for the Mauser or Canadian collection.
