Canadian Issue L.E. 1 (Long Lee Rifle)
- Licensing Category: Non-restricted
- Maker: Enfield
- Caliber/Gauge: .303
SN 2801 A is one of the earlier L.E. 1 rifles as acquired by Canada. The socket is dated 1896. The stock is marked with the Canadian M&D mark. The tang shows a rack #890. The bolt is original and matching to the action. The bore shows overall corrosion and sound rifling. This piece is missing its rear swivel, magazine link and cleaning rod. The wood shows overall usage and issue marks but is complete and original including the left side volley sights. This rifle appears to be from one of the first batches of Lee Enfield rifles as shipped in 1896. This rifle may have been one that saw South African service but it is very difficult to substantiate the same.
