SN E40723 is a Lee Enfield No 1 MK III built by BSA and dated 1917. This rifle shows the socket markings with the deleted star marking. This MK III retains the magazine cut-off. The barrel shows a 1926 date and a 1927 refurbish mark. This example shows all matching numbers on the barrel, action, bolt and component parts. The bore rates at bright excellent. The wood is Australian showing a 1943 date and remains in excellent condition. This rifle was probably refurbished in England utilizing Australian wood from the post Dunkirk eta. The rifle is marked England and proofed as per export control regulations. Whatever the history may be, this is an excellent example of a No 1 MKIII retaining its cut-off. An above average example for the Lee Enfield collection. An above average condition example showing 90% plus original finish.
