  • Description:

This is a 3rd Model Brown Bess as originally issued in England to the 98th Regiment of foot.  The barrel shows the clear proofs and the very uncommon regimentally marked barrel.  Some prior owner added browning to the barrel and rod that appears to be removable. The lock is original with a clear tower, crown GR marking (broken main spring).  The conversion to percussion appears to be Canadian. In Maritime Canada conversions were done for local militia units by local gunsmiths and or blacksmith's in more rural areas. The conversion on this musket was one completed by a gunsmith using an outsourced commercial hammer and drum.  Unfortunately, the wood on this musket is not original military.   This piece was sourced out of rural New Brunswick. The 55 mark on the buttplate suggests that it may have been issued to the 55th Battalion, 74th Regiment, New Brunswick Rangers.  This item is offered as parts only. Note: all parts are sold on a no return basis.
