  • Description:

This item is one of the variations of the British Pattern 1803 Officers sword.  Ref: see "Swords of the British Army", revised ED by Brian  Robson.  This example shows the standard hilt with the crown over the George III Royal Cypher.  Page 151 of the aforesaid, this piece shows a sound hilt and fish skin grip.  The blade on this sword is a scimitar approximately  27" with a 9" double edge spear point.  The blade shows no remnants of the original blue but shows remnants of the crown, cypher and flag that were engraved on the same.  This would suggest carry and use by an officer attached to an Indian unit.  An interesting variation of an 1803 Pattern sword.  No scabbard came with this item from an old British Military collection.
