  • Description:

Pattern 1796 infantry officer's sword.  This example shows a similar hilt mount as the sword #131 on page 147 of "Swords of the British Army" by Robson.  This example retains the gilt brass finish, original German silver wire grip.  The blade shows obvious extended usage with traces of the original design.  The blade is 31 1/2" as with swords of this pattern-probably nipped and reshaped due to service usage.  This out of the attic example shows a later used scabbard showing most of it's leather cover.  This scabbard shows hard usage and storage.    A representative sword from the 1796 to early 1800's era.
