SN R23200 is an early 1942 production No. 4 rifle. This was one of the early No 1 MK4's that were rushed into production due to arms shortages and losses in the 1st stage of the war. See the crude stampings on the socket and rush welding on the receiver bridge. This example shows bright, excellent bore. For reference see Pgs 217-221 of "the Lee Enfierld,Last Edition" by Skinnerton. The early No 4s were turned out very quickly in order to cover arms shortages and the threat of German invasion. The example show a No 1 bolt head and a less than perfect wood solution that was in short supply at time of production. A nice example for the Lee Enfield collection. Non restricted.
