  • Description:

An excellent example of a 1796 pattern officer's sword.  This example shows the 32" blade.  The blade shows blueing with gilt, lined engraving.  The guard shows most of it's original gilting, sound kidney shaped shells.  The grip shows all of its original silver wire.  This example remains in better then average condition.  This sword rides in a steel scabbard (most are found with leather scabbards) . Ref: see page 146 "Swords of the British Army" by Robson re steel scabbard suspended from slings.  An overall sound example that is complete.  One of the more common British swords from the Napoleonic wars.
