• Description:

  SN 187 is an antique French Gras or converted Chassepot Cadet rifle.  This piece was built with a smooth bore and was probably intended to fire some form of blank cartridge.  The bolt shows no provision for any form of extractor.  This scaled down piece shows a 26" barrel and an overall length of 42" in the white finish with sound wood.  This piece comes with its' original scaled down bayonet and scabbard.  The blade is 16 1/4 and an overall length of 19 1/2". " The bayonet book" by Watts and White at page 93 no. 194 shows a similar Cadet bayonet.  A scarce French Cadet rifle and a scarce bayonet for the French or bolt action collector.
